Neurodiversity Affirming Social Supports

Differences exist between neurodivergent and neurotypical communication styles. We can provide support to your child and to anyone communicating with your child (e.g., family, peers, educators and teachers) to promote positive connections and interactions.

Support for other people in your child’s life may involve:

  • Understanding different neurotypes and communication styles
  • Discussing the importance of using interests to support positive relationships for your child
  • Understanding and honouring stimming and sensory preferences
  • Creating supportive environments for your child

Support for your child may involve:

  • Understanding different neurotypes and communication styles
  • Building self awareness of their sensory and communication preferences
  • Using interests as a basis of social connection
  • Building your child’s self-advocacy skills
